Alps Tournament in Sierre

The 8th Alps Tournament took place on July 29 and 30 under sunny skies in Sierre. A beautiful weekend with little wind and eight motivated pilots—that was all it took to make for a great competition.

On Saturday, the competition kicked off with the usual program, and Emilien Galley from Bulle showed who was in charge. He was hot on the heels of François Ballis from Athénaz; the other pilots fought as best they could, but Emilien was in a league of his own. At noon, the pilots enjoyed a meal prepared by Estelle and Olivier. After a short break to digest, the flights resumed with the “unknown” category. There, too, Emilien was unbeatable.

Saturday evening ended with raclette, Fendant wine, and music—as always in Valais.

On Sunday morning, all the pilots took part in the free-flight competition. This round, as usual, was dominated by a very well-planned and superbly executed flight by Emilien Galley! Then came the delicious paella prepared by Brigitte and Bernard Rey. In the afternoon, several demonstrations lit up the skies over Sierre.

Thank you to the judges—Roland Balet, François Bomottet, Roland Galley, and Jérôme Savioz—who took turns carrying out the difficult task of calling fouls when necessary.

As for the aircraft, there were Extras, Gilles, a Katana, and a Superstar. Engine displacements ranged from 30 cm³ to 150 cm³, and wingspans from 2.05 m to 3 m.

See you in 2007!
