Freestyle flying is becoming increasingly popular
The combination of the Swiss Aero-Musical Championships with the indoor flying event hosted by the IG Modellflugplatz Arth at the Arth Sports Hall was a resounding success—not only for the competitors and the large crowd of spectators but also for the IGMA organizers. Interest in the F6 Airsports Promotion classes has generally increased. Time and again, both helicopter and fixed-wing pilots have remarked that they were particularly taken with flying freely to music. So it was no surprise that, without any “telephone campaigning,” twice as many competitors were ranked at the AeroMusicals Swiss Championships as at the Swiss Indoor Aerobatics Championships. For spectators, the F6 classes are particularly attractive—which was, after all, the main purpose of this new category—since they largely eliminate any sense of monotony. Although the level of flying skill and artistic performance had improved enormously in a short time, fundamental errors were still evident at these Swiss Championships; correcting them—which is relatively simple—would significantly increase the potential. Corresponding workshops are planned. Incidentally, in freestyle flying—more than anywhere else—participation and enjoyment for pilots and spectators come before rankings. This brief report would not be complete without extending my heartfelt thanks to the IGMA organizers. I’m happy to answer any questions and provide information about these F6 freestyle classes—both indoor and outdoor—at: editor@modellflugsport.ch
