Strengelbach Model Aircraft Club, Region 4—A Different Kind of Experience

Ever since the MG Strengelbach was founded, we have always strived to foster friendly relations with the farmers and residents living near our model airfield.

Thanks to these excellent relationships, we have been able to keep our model airfield to this day; in fact, with the consent of a landowner, we were even able to build a lovely barbecue area in the middle of the forest this past spring. Shortly after the start of the year—when the wind is actually ideal for gliding—our annual “community work” begins on our farmer’s land. We clean up the forest, which has been heavily littered with scrap wood from the winter logging.

A “hearty mid-morning snack” with “coffee and all” usually wraps up the “hard work.”

At the start of summer (the beginning of daylight saving time, which hasn’t taken effect yet this year), we kick off our big forest cabin festival. Our guests from the farm are also warmly invited to join us. This year, the cows haven’t been switched over to summer hours yet, so it was enough for them to get home in time to be milked at the right time.

At the start of summer, when strawberry season begins, our voluntary farm work continues. On various weekends, we work together to bring in the harvest.

At the end of the year, we visit our neighbors in the surrounding area who are affected by noise to bring them a small gift.

We’re always amazed at how positively the local community views our hobby.

We believe that this approach—even though it requires each member to contribute a few hours of their free time—is certainly the right path for our future and for the preservation of our model airfield. I would just like to point out here that with mutual accommodation and a little goodwill, many disputes could be avoided.
