Slope Free Flight: Glider Models with Automatic Control (F1E and F1E–SK)

In the spring, the Swiss Hang Gliding Championship—scheduled by the Dübendorf Model Flying Club in the Hallau area (SH)—had to be canceled twice due to bad weather. On October 28, 2006, the Swiss F1E Championship was held in Wikartswil (BE) under good conditions. The first three rounds were flown under ideal conditions with a light headwind. Most participants achieved the maximum announced flight times. In the fourth and fifth rounds, the wind direction changed, making it difficult to fly the required flight times. In the final round, the winner was not determined by flight time; instead,

but by the percentage score calculated from the five rounds, as specified in the rules. The Special Construction Hang Glider Model Championship was held on November 4, 2006, on the south-facing slope in Wikartswil, Bern, organized by MG Bern. Three rounds were flown under fine weather conditions and a light southerly wind. Because no thermal updrafts could be found, it was difficult to achieve the required flight time with the duck model or the single-wing model. In each round, only one participant achieved the announced maximum flight time. The competition then had to be abandoned due to a strong north wind that had picked up.
