GARIV – The 4th "Eat and Fly"

On Saturday, April 22, 2023, when we arrived in Lodrino at 7:30 a.m., it was a nearly cloudless day with a temperature of 8 degrees. Once again, someone might ask, “Mangia e Vola—is it happening again?” Well, Easter, Christmas, and other holidays also come around every year, and they’re always welcome.

The event has become very popular and is well-attended as a result.

It’s hard to pinpoint the secret to its success, but one thing is clear: people feel free and at ease.

I've already flown a couple of times. Now even the temperature is being kind, and with the sun finally coming out, it's pleasantly warm.

This time, jets are the main attraction, though that doesn’t mean other models—from classic airplanes to gliders, in various sizes—aren’t also present. There’s even a helicopter. Unfortunately, this category is still very sparsely represented.

Newcomers have nothing to worry about, as there were several young pilots present who have already shown some skill.

We were able to enjoy a delicious barbecue meal, prepared by the cooks, in pleasant company.

The afternoon went much like the morning: waiting in line until it was your turn—a good time to chat with your neighbor.

As time went on, a surprising phenomenon occurred: groups of people began to form. Some gathered to troubleshoot technical issues with a jet, while others, as if in a “Happening,” formed a circle to feel a sense of togetherness.

Is this the magic of Mangia e Vola?

Who knows. In any case, it was a successful event, organized by the GARIV group, which deserves a big thank you for managing to create an event that could soon become a tradition.
