2009 European Electric Aircraft Championships
Remo Frattini Claims the Championship Title—But for Italy. Thomas Waeckerlin Wins Bronze
At the European Electric Glider Championships (F5B class) held at the beautiful airfield in Cisnadia, Romania, Remo Frattini—an Italian-Swiss dual citizen residing in Winterthur—claimed the European championship title. Frattini has been a member of the Italian national team for many years. The (unfortunately) only Swiss participant, Thomas Waeckerlin of MG Rapperswil-Jona, finished

an impressive third-place finish behind Austria's Johannes Starzinger. Both pilots, Waeckerlin and Frattini, can look back on a very successful season. Frattini leads the coveted FAI World Cup, and Waeckerlin won the Swiss Championships. The team title went, somewhat surprisingly, to Italy, ahead of Austria and Russia.
