2024 West Interregional Championship at MV Bern in Mühlethurnen
This year, the RCS-Akro once again hosted two interregional championships. The new format—with one competition in the East and one in the West—has proven successful. This approach has allowed for a smaller field of participants and makes it possible to hold four to five scoring flights, including freestyle routines, in a single day. It also shortens travel distances for both participants and judges.
For the second edition of the RCS Interregional Championship for the Bernese Oberland/Valais, Northwest, and Romand AéRo regions, the Swissakro Connection was hosted by MV Bern at the beautiful and spacious airfield in Mühlethurnen. Fortunately, competition director René Koblet was once again able to welcome new aerobatics enthusiasts. Fourteen regional and four rookie pilots each completed four scoring flights that day. The three tow pilots therefore had their work cut out for them, towing the participants’ models to a starting altitude of 450 meters. The
subsequent flights were judged by four male judges and one female judge. It was a demanding task that required a great deal of concentration over the course of about five hours. The judges handled it brilliantly.
Toward evening, after the results were announced, we could look back on a wonderful, successful competition.
A big thank you goes to MV Bern for their wonderful hospitality and excellent catering, and to René Koblet and Andy Minnig for organizing the event. We would also like to thank the judges, who closely observed and evaluated the flight demonstrations, the three experienced tow pilots, and all the volunteers whose dedication contributed to the success of the event.
