Electric Aerobatics Friendship Competition in Münchenbuchsee

Organization: MG Münchenbuchsee

On September 13, 1981, the MG Münchenbuchsee held its first electric model aircraft competition. The program consisted of selecting from a catalog of 13 maneuvers (excluding takeoff, approach, and landing) those that seemed most suitable for the model to include in one’s flight program. Since even the simplest maneuvers were included, one could, without feeling guilty, take to the air with a Mosquito, for example. Unfortunately, only Jürg Steck set a good example here.

We intentionally limited ourselves to aerobatic maneuvers that weren’t too difficult; the most challenging ones were the Cuban Eight, a simple Immelmann, and a spin. We need to reconsider the fact that the same maneuver could be flown twice per round. A round consisted of eight maneuvers, including the landing rectangle and the landing itself. This type of competition was an experiment for us. We wanted to see just how much interest there actually is in electric flying in Region 2. Unfortunately, it looked very bleak, as our members were the only ones from Region 2.

In any case, we were very happy to welcome model aviators from Regions 4 and 5. In the end, it was an “outsider” who won (fortunately). Thomas Scheidegger from Burgdorf and Roland Hersperger from Meilen were locked in a neck-and-neck race right up to the end, which Thomas Scheidegger ultimately won with 3,616 points.

The MG Münchenbuchsee hopes to hold this competition next year with greater participation.
