Free Flight Day F1

6

On June 30, 2019, about thirty interested participants, including eight newcomers, gathered for the first F1 Free Flight Day. The F1 category consists of free-flight models that are launched into the air without a remote control. This event was organized by the F1 Committee in Wikartswil.

It was the hottest Sunday in June 2019. This free flight day was launched to get new people excited about the sport. As in other disciplines, only the models are getting newer and younger—but not the pilots. That’s why the group is looking for new talent, regardless of age. Anyone interested in free flight had the opportunity in Wikartswil to try it out for themselves or at least watch. Demonstrations were held for the F1A, F1B, and F1E categories, flown by members of the F1 national team. The site looked its best thanks to the many mowed fields, making it ideal for trying out all the categories. Even beginners were able, under guidance, to successfully launch F1A models on a string and throw F1E models with magnetic control from the slope. For the younger kids, there was a craft table where, under supervision, they could build three different SMV models. Even a guest from Ticino made the trip to Wikartswil. Another free flight day is planned for next year as well. However, anyone interested can contact Fako F1 at any time and is welcome to attend any competition, where they can experience free flight up close and perhaps even get inspired to participate themselves. ■
