For the fourth time, the NOS region was able to hold its electric flight workshop at the Dübendorf Aviation Museum. Following various announcements in trade, local, and regional media, 26 young men and women of secondary school age signed up for the three-day vacation course.

Old Airplanes – New Ideas

The close collaboration with the Air Force Center in Dübendorf is a real stroke of luck for everyone. Promoting flying through actions rather than words! The Aviation Museum’s event center is perfectly suited for hosting this event, and its thoroughly aviation-themed atmosphere is truly inspiring. It’s an example of how the old can repeatedly inspire new ideas.

Beginners and Advanced Learners

The young people worked in three groups. In the two beginner groups, participants could build either a PC-21 out of Depron or the Graupner Canary out of wood. Both are well-prepared kits. For these two groups, all materials—from the powerplant to the modern RC system—were included in the course fee. The advanced students designed, planned, and built their own electric model aircraft out of Depron based on their own ideas. Short theory sessions and introductions were held in between. The tour of the JU-52 was certainly a great change of pace.

Old and Young

The effort required for coaching and knowledge transfer is particularly significant among the “designers” group. Most of the approximately 20 leaders are seniors. Thanks to their natural and professional authority, they were met with the highest level of acceptance, resulting in unforgettable and priceless life experiences for both sides. ■
