Kicking Off the New Year
Dear fellow athletes,
Every club president has the responsibility to take stock of the state of his “little ship” each year. If he finds that the positives outweigh the negatives across the board, he has reason to be satisfied with his people—but not yet with himself.

I can feel satisfied—yes, even happy—this time as I look back on our movement’s achievements in 1971. So I’d like to briefly remind you of the following:
- Brilliantly organized regional championships in all categories.
- Outstanding results by members from our region at the Swiss Championships, with winners in three categories.
- A triple victory for Region V by the Pfäffikon, Dübendorf, and Dietikon groups in the annual competition for the best group in the RC disciplines, and 2nd place for the Affoltern a. A. group in the free-flight disciplines.
- Bruno Giezendanner became world champion in the F3A category for the second time.
- Excellent results by the other representatives from our region at the World Championships and other international events.
- A remarkable increase in membership.
- Smooth cooperation among the individual groups, as well as good camaraderie within the groups.
Through the spontaneous decision by the chairpersons’ conference to contribute an additional annual fee of Fr. 3.— per member toward the costs of this newsletter, you have given me and my fellow board members yet another pleasant surprise. This has brought us a significant step closer to our goal of keeping you better informed. Of course, we also hope for your active participation in the form of interesting articles.
As the year comes to a close, all that remains for me is the pleasant task of sincerely thanking my fellow board members, the group leaders, the judges, the timekeepers, and, of course, all active members for their great dedication. I ask the group chairpersons to please pass on my thanks to all landowners and authorities who have supported us in the practice of our wonderful sport.
I extend my best wishes to you and your families for the New Year.
