1995 World Championships in Aerobatics (F3A) and Helicopters (F3C)

On the last weekend in August, around 150 pilots from 30 countries will compete for titles and medals in the southern part of Japan’s main island. Three teams from the Swiss and Liechtenstein model aviation associations will also be competing.

It has been known for a good three years that the 1995 F3A World Championships are to be held in Japan. As for the helicopters, only those who didn’t believe in the Ikariada in Greece—a sort of Olympics for air sports—knew this (Icarus, as everyone knows, crashed!). A sort of trial run already took place last year. The Japanese Model Aviation Association (JAA) is organizing the event on behalf of the FAI. The main sponsors are the Japanese model-building magazine “Radio Control Technique” and a large portion of the very strong domestic model-building industry. The venue is a small airfield that is otherwise used primarily for agricultural purposes and is located at an “altitude” of four meters below sea level. For the first time, nearly the entire Asian continent is expected to be represented.
