GAM2000: 2021 International Helicopter Rally

It’s gray and foggy outside, and memories of last summer are coming back.

A beautiful weekend, August 21–22, with temperatures above 30 degrees—perfect weather for getting out and about, but where to go? There’s the helicopter rally in Stabio, so there’s no time to waste. As soon as I saw the airfield, I was struck by a sense of familiarity, even though I’ve known it for years.

There were helicopters in large numbers, each one more beautiful than the last.

In addition to the usual familiar faces that show up every year, there were also some new additions.

We were visited by a Super Puma from the Baumann company in Belp,

Known from the television series “I Modellbauer.” A model that stood out for its rich detail.

Was there nothing to fear—a forest fire, perhaps? A Sikorsky-Erickson Air Crane was available as a firefighting variant. Pictures speak louder than words.

Of course, classic models were also represented in all variations of military or rescue helicopters, whether electric or turbine-powered.

And for those who were thirsty, well, there was a bar ready to serve cold beers and other beverages, which guests enjoyed at tables set up in the greenery. Hunger was satisfied on both days with exquisite lunches.

All in all, a successful weekend—and with its model show, it’s already the annual highlight on modelers’ calendars.
