Rubber-Band-Powered Models on Wooden Sticks

The coronavirus crisis is casting a shadow over the future. We face the threat of bans on gatherings, restrictions on personal freedom, closed model airfields, and much more.

Gummimotor.ch was lucky! On Saturday, March 14, 2020, we were just barely able to hold our spring meet, albeit with the necessary social distancing and without shaking hands to greet one another. One week later—and nothing was possible anymore.

In Holziken, in the canton of Aargau, a farmer let us use his large meadows for this successful event. Eight male pilots and one female pilot launched their models into the sky in virtually windless weather. There was a wide variety of models on display. From Peanut Scale to Jumbo Scale, from Wakefield to P-30 to specialty models. Simply everything that’s fun. There were both group and individual launches. Even the film plane was back in action. And—the C-36 kits were handed out. Six members are each building

such “Short Kit” model. It will be interesting to see how they turn out—after all, there were various paint schemes and versions during the originals’ service life.

A successful event with satisfied participants. Now everyone is hoping that the fall meet in October can also take place at the “Gheid” airfield in Olten and that we’ll all get to see each other again there.
