The 5th Construction Night at the AMC Geneva
For the fifth time, novice and experienced model builders gathered in the Geneva countryside at AMC Malval for a wild night. Over the weekend of July 9 and 10, 17 drivers signed up for 18 hours of model building.
Our group’s cabin is thus transformed for
a long night of racing among builder-drivers in a wild atmosphere. Construction is based on plans or simple sketches; pre-built kits or pre-prepared parts are prohibited. The prize is a race to test the skills of both builders and drivers.
The theme of this 5th edition was the pylon race

The only restriction is that the propeller size cannot exceed 7". The themes, which vary from year to year, offer everyone the opportunity to showcase their talents. From endurance flights to weight-lifting and racing, the AMC offers, through this extraordinary competition, a unique event that also highlights aspects of improvisation and rapid construction. The need for space to fly means there’s a limited number of pilots, who are subject to fatigue and sometimes unpredictable weather conditions.
The first models were completed by the end of the night for the fastest builders. At sunrise,
a few test flights were conducted to validate the design, with enough time to make any necessary changes—even major ones. The weather held up until about an hour before the official end; that’s when the sky opened up like rarely before at the AMC airfield. We quickly found ourselves with water up to our ankles. The race finally took place several hours late for three models that hadn’t sustained too much damage from the humidity or during the test flights. Once again, this unique concept showcases the pilots’ creativity and has been a huge hit with a wide range of modelers. The AMC is pleased to invite you to the 2012 edition to take on the challenge and bring the trophy home from the founding club. More photos are available now, and further information will be posted next spring at www.amc-geneve.ch.
