RC Aerobatics (F3A) West in Mühlethurnen
Organization: MG Bern
On August 12, the Bern Model Flying Club hosted the Interregional Championship for Group West in the F3A category (aerobatics) in Mühlethurnen.
Twelve pilots gathered at the idyllic airfield on the Müschen—the name of the stream that borders one long side of the four-meter-wide, 45-meter-long paved runway—including a gratifying number of fellow modelers from French-speaking Switzerland and Valais.
Under good, nearly ideal weather conditions—the crosswind demanded complete concentration if one didn’t want to risk “baptizing” one’s model in the clear waters of the Müschen—the competition proceeded without a hitch. Since, on the one hand, the sun’s position would have been very disruptive in the fourth round and, on the other hand, the competition would have lasted well into the evening, the jury decided to limit the event to three rounds (with no discard).
The winner, with three consistent flights (477/447/448 points), was Martin Lüthi (MG Burgdorf) with 1,342 points, followed by Louis Pasini (MG Geneva) with 1,244 points and Othmar Jäggi (MG Wangen) with 1,231 points.
Thanks to the outstanding organizational efforts of MG Bern and the dedicated support of the model aviators’ wives (providing meals and baking cakes), the competition proved to be a successful model aviation festival that not even the numerous “Wespi” could spoil. We would like to thank the organizing team from MG Bern and competition director Karl (Charly) Morgenthaler for their dedication.
