Dear Readers

As you can see from the legal notice, the editorial board and the regional executive committee have decided to entrust the magazine to a reputable publishing house. This is not because we were dissatisfied with our previous printer, but because the entire publishing operation (advertisements, subscriptions, billing, etc.) has grown to a scale that a purely amateur organization simply could no longer handle. We are convinced that we have taken the right path with this solution.

The publisher will handle all administrative tasks, while editorial responsibilities will remain with Region 5. We must clearly recognize that MFS has now become a business that, ultimately, must also be financially viable; that is, Region 5 should not incur any additional costs, and the publishing house must be able to receive appropriate compensation for its significant work (excluding printing costs). Up until now, the entire operation has been structured, managed, and administered in an exceptionally idealistic manner. The future will be a compromise between commercial and idealistic thinking. In return, everything should become more efficient and stand on a stronger footing. Publishing magazines is an exceptionally tough business. This has been impressively demonstrated to me in recent years. Good ideas, initiative, and idealistic contributions from our model aviation community simply aren’t enough in the long run if the necessary business leadership isn’t in place—something I, incidentally, completely lack. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank everyone for their valuable contributions—no matter how small. I’m especially grateful for the amazing support and the great trust I’ve repeatedly received from the regional board and the group chairpersons. Model aviation continues to need all of you—your collaboration, your ideas and suggestions, and, not least, your moral support. I hope that the significant relief this new arrangement will bring me will free up energy for editorial work—especially for building a well-functioning editorial team that will ensure MFS remains not one-sided, but as diverse and open as possible. Critical voices must not be missing in the future either.

Best regards
