FROM 0 TO 100

Dear Reader,

In our cover story, we present “VTOL,” a gathering of vertical takeoff model airplanes. The idea was a success and drew several pilots to Pfäffikon, ZH. The variety of VTOL models on display was astonishing. It created a Militky Cup-like atmosphere reminiscent of the good old days—the organizers really hit the nail on the head with this idea.

With the Freestyle Challenge, a new sports category was launched in Switzerland in just nine months. This category claims to represent the most creative form of aerobatics in model aviation. The field of participants at the first competition was certainly impressive and can definitely be considered a success. Here, too, it remains to be seen how this scene will develop, as the models are perceived as rather loud during flight maneuvers; this could set off some residents here and there when training for this challenge. The Nidwalden Model Flying Club has made it from 0 to 70—it celebrated its 70th anniversary with a diverse air show.

In my view, to ensure that as many model flying clubs as possible can celebrate an anniversary, every club must take a more proactive approach to ensuring its continued existence by supporting young people. We need to counteract the decline in membership within the SMV; doing nothing won’t solve the problem. Otherwise, will we go from 100 to 0?

The editorial team hopes you’ll find plenty of distraction and entertainment in all the topics covered in this issue.
