A SUCCESSFUL FACELIFT AT CLAM

CLAM, or the Club Lémanique d'Aéromodélisme, has been based for 43 years on the Orbe Plain, near Bavois, south of Yverdon.

To each his own problems

Still spared the many environmental challenges faced by numerous clubs in Switzerland, CLAM’s main difficulty is maintaining its field. Located on extremely peaty soil, the ground gradually subsides due to humidity, global warming, and fluctuations in the water table. The landowner is also affected by this, which means the land is closely monitored and used for federal trials, so we cannot manage our model aircraft field as we see fit.

With a new lawn, the CLAM club is reborn...

Without farmers, there is no land

It should be noted that without the approval of the landowner and good relations, it becomes difficult to retain a plot of land. Furthermore, the deterioration of the terrain and the wait for general measures to improve the overall situation also led to a decline in membership, as members grew weary of being unable to take off or frustrated by crashing their planes into holes in the rough terrain. In short, the situation had dragged on for too long.

After explaining the deteriorating situation to the landowner, the field was immediately restored, reigniting hopes for a long-awaited revival.

The new CLAM has arrived

Proud of the track restoration work, CLAM invited its neighbors for the second consecutive year to come test and enjoy the track in a friendly atmosphere. Many of our model-building neighbors turned out for a wonderful day. Naturally, the club must now rebuild and resume its activities without frustration, while remaining mindful of environmental fragility to ensure the track’s long-term sustainability. Thanks to the dedication of its members and their families (to whom we extend our gratitude), a revival is certainly on the horizon. This new grass field will certainly contribute to that.
