At exactly 8:00 p.m., President Stefan Gamma welcomed the approximately 30 members. In his annual report, he once again highlighted various friendly flights, competitions, and outings as successes.

Model aircraft flying fosters patience

The SZ-UR Model Aircraft Club is an association as defined in Art. 60 et seq. of the Swiss Civil Code.

Anyone—men and women alike—can join. Model flying is fascinating, challenging, and demanding; it fosters patience, involves working with many different materials, means dreaming, planning, and building, involves building indoors and flying outdoors, is diverse, is a school of life, fosters positive social development, is full of surprises, brings feelings of joy, involves winning and losing, brings fellow modelers, is contagious, means learning to understand technology, means actions instead of words, involves wind and weather, combines high-tech and basic physics, and can be a lifelong source of inspiration and enjoyment. An interest in aviation is our backbone.

Skills Put to the Test The RCS Slope could be described as the highlight of the past season. At this regional gliding championship, several pilots from the Schwyz-Uri Model Flying Club were able to demonstrate their skills. They consistently achieved good results in the overall standings.

Sponsors/Awards

Thanks to the support of numerous sponsors, the club was able to close out the year on a positive note, despite some expenses, including financial ones.

Originating from the Schwyz Teachers' College

Founded in 1961 by a group of students from the Schwyz College with the aim of promoting model aircraft flying in the region, the club is now in its 49th year. The approximately 70 members—half of whom come from the Uri region and half from the Schwyz valley basin—primarily engage in slope soaring. Our pre-Alpine topography is ideal for extended flights in slope lift or thermal columns. However, some members also fly powered aircraft. One of our real strengths is helicopter flying, as we have pilots who are among the very best in the country. We don’t stand still—we move with the times, and the number of electric aircraft pilots is growing. This type of flying produces no emissions and can still be enjoyed regardless of wind conditions, airfields, or the need for helpers.

It’s worth mentioning that Walti Beeler (www.beeler-schreinerei.ch) and Alois Fässler (www.faessler-metallbau.ch) have both provided us with very generous and active support. We would also like to take this opportunity to extend a big thank you to the SMV for its financial support for our newly renovated clubhouse.

Elections/Board of Directors

There were no changes to the board. About half of the board members were re-elected as scheduled. As a key focus of the board’s work this year, preparations for the association’s 50th anniversary in 2011 are to be planned as early as this year.

2010 Annual Program / Outlook

An exciting annual program has been put together for the coming club year. The first championships and friendly flying events will begin as early as March. With the trip to Monte Lemma and the vacation pass, this year is sure to bring countless unforgettable moments once again.
