On the occasion of the loorholz-flugtage.ch, which will take place on August 1 and 2, 2020, the organizing committee of MG Swipair hopes to secure an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records. The world record has been pre-registered with Guinness World Records.

Preparation

On August 1 at 4:00 p.m., all scale helicopters from the Alouette family in attendance will be counted. Preparations for this are currently in full swing. All owners of Alouette II, Alouette III, and Lama helicopters are eligible to participate. Participating pilots can request the terms and conditions and the registration form in advance at info@loorholz-flugtage.ch. When the SE 3160 made its maiden flight in 1959, the engineers at Sud Aviation likely already suspected that they had hit the jackpot. It quickly became clear that the lightweight turbine helicopter was ideally suited for operations in high-altitude mountain regions. The helicopters of the Alouette family (Alouette 2, Alouette 3, and Lama) have been in service worldwide from 1960 to the present and are beloved by operators and pilots alike. Many records were set with these helicopter models, records that remained unbroken by newer developments for years. Around the world, these helicopters have been and continue to be used by armies, police forces, and private rescue organizations.

The Alouette family also remains one of the most popular models among model builders, who recreate these aircraft in a wide variety of scales based on all possible prototypes and variants. This connection between the real aircraft and the model prompted the organizing committee of the Loorholz Air Show to commemorate the Alouette family with this world record.

Description of the World Record

Most models based on the Alouette 2, Alouette 3, and Lama aircraft at a model aircraft event. The goal is to showcase as many models of these types on the runway as possible.

  • The time for the record attempt is set for August 1, 2020, at 4:00 p.m. (CEST)
  • The number of Alouette 2, Alouette 3, and Lama model types present at that time will count toward the world record
  • The model aircraft runway at the 2020 Loorholz Air Show has been designated as the venue for the world record attempt

Requirements for models to be eligible for the world record
  • Only models based on the Alouette 2, Alouette 3, and Lama are permitted. Size and scale do not matter
  • The models must resemble the real-life aircraft in appearance and shape
  • The main and tail rotor systems will not be evaluated based on the number of rotor blades or the direction of rotation of the rotor system
  • The models must be equipped with an RC system and capable of flight
  • The model’s propulsion system may be of any type
  • As proof of the real-world model, the model owner must present a picture of the real-world model to the jury
  • The paint scheme does not have to match the original model, nor does it have to match the photo presented as proof
  • Unfinished models that meet the other criteria may also participate
  • Each model owner/presenter may participate with an unlimited number of models
  • The expert jury will inspect the models between 2:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. and grant approval for the world record

The organizing committee was able to recruit the following prominent figures to serve on the expert jury:
  • Dr. Philipp Perren – Attorney and Member of the Board of Directors of Air Zermatt
  • Adrian Eggenberger – President of the Swiss Model Aircraft Association
  • Franz Brandstätter – Manufacturer of large-scale Lama models, brandyfly.at
