Hahnenmoos Alpine Model Aircraft Camp
A successful youth project has been running for years in the Bern–Oberland–Valais region—or BOW, for short. The Alpine Model Aircraft Camp was founded in 1992 by a few enthusiastic model aircraft enthusiasts and has become an integral part of the annual program at Hahnenmoos.
For one week, the young participants can indulge in their hobby at 2,000 meters above sea level. Under expert guidance, the participants will fly their glider models in the reliable slope and thermal winds of the Hahnenmos Pass. In case of damage to the models, a repair shop with the necessary technical support is available. This year, the organizers had to contend with some rather nasty weather conditions. Rain, snow, fog, and even beautiful sunshine marked a fantastic camp. When flying conditions were poor, participants built balsa gliders, which were later used in competitions. Longest flight: three minutes!
We believe that model aircraft flying can provide young people with some important life experiences, particularly in the areas of manual dexterity, an appreciation of nature, and perseverance. For more information, visit www.alpines.ch.
