70 YEARS OF THE NIDWALDEN MODEL AIRPLANE CLUB

Spending an entire Saturday with fellow model airplane enthusiasts at their own model airfield, marveling at the club’s most beautiful and interesting models, and enjoying flying their own planes. Enjoying lively conversations with cheerful people and good food. This is exactly what the Nidwalden Model Aircraft Club wanted, which is why it decided at its 69th General Assembly to celebrate its 70th anniversary with an anniversary flight day.

The event took place on May 16, 2026, at the Buochs airfield. Just as there have been “ups” and “downs” throughout the club’s long history, the weather on our anniversary flight day was also quite varied. We experienced everything from rain and wind to sunshine. Fortunately for us, the weather kept opening up windows of clear skies, so all the pilots got plenty of flying time. This allowed us to showcase a wide range of models to our fellow club members and visitors. From the anniversary-themed flying wing to Dusty the crop-duster, a B-17 dropping plaster bombs, and the helicopter show program featuring “Fire and Smoke.” There was a 3D helicopter program set to appropriate music, as well as gliders that quietly circled the field and even found some thermals. Our visitors could also admire the models on display in the tent, and those interested had the opportunity to try their hand at the model flight simulator. Our announcers and the music contributed to a great atmosphere on the field. They skillfully guided the audience through the program, provided visitors with information about the models and pilots, and did an excellent job of showcasing our hobby. People marveled, admired, and talked shop, and during breaks in the rain, they enjoyed a grilled sausage or a cup of coffee in the tent. Our anniversary air show flew by in the blink of an eye, and at 6:30 p.m., invited guests joined us for the anniversary dinner. One club member and chef treated all members and guests to delicious grilled meats and salads, while another club member played with his folk music ensemble in the tent, once again creating a great atmosphere and providing a wonderful end to the evening.

Many thanks once again to the six-member organizing committee and to all club members and volunteers who made this day an unforgettable experience in the 70-year history of the Nidwalden Model Flying Club.
