F5 Electric Flight in Pfäffikon and Küssaburg D

Until recently, the Swiss Electric Flight Championship was open to international participants; it was even part of the FAI World Cup. That is why the name “Open Swiss Electric Flight Nationals” is still used today. As in other multi-discipline model aircraft classes, such as free flight or circuit flight, all F5 categories are held, whenever possible, over a single weekend and at a single location.

Separate championships this time

Since the MG Schaffhausen had to cancel the planned F5 Swiss Championships due to unresolved issues with the municipality neighboring the airfield, the MV Pfäffikon stepped in at the last minute to host the F5B glider and F5A aerobatics competitions, and the pylon racing community was able to capitalize on its good relations with the Küssaburg Model Flying Club in Germany to hold the competition at their beautiful airfield just across the border.

A few more participants wouldn't hurt

While aerobatics is doing well with 10 or more participants, gliding and pylon racing could easily accommodate a few more competitors. Despite lobbying efforts, both classes are hovering at the minimum threshold. Ideas for a consistent program to promote young talent are therefore needed. In gliding, this is being attempted with a new open class and strictly limited engine power. This new entry-level class is eagerly anticipated. GZ
