1995 Swiss Helicopter (F3C) Championship in Signau
On June 24–25, 1995, the Signau Model Aircraft Club hosted the 15th Swiss Model Helicopter Championships in Steinen. Peter Oberli served as competition director. Eighteen model helicopter pilots—some accompanied by their entire families—traveled from all parts of Switzerland and even from neighboring countries. It was particularly gratifying that three Italian and one French guest pilots had made their way to Steinen to fly in the F3C Swiss Championships outside of the competition.
Although the weather on Saturday could have been better, three rounds were still flown. On Saturday evening, most participants stayed at the airfield to enjoy dinner in the MG Signau tent.
The fourth and final round took place on Sunday under perfect weather conditions. In the end, Daniele Graber from Ticino once again stood at the top of the podium. Graber is a twelve-time Swiss champion and the reigning European champion in model helicopter flying, and is therefore likely a familiar name to many. Incidentally, he also won his first Swiss championship at the MG Signau in Steinen. Second place went to local pilot Stephan Meier. It was particularly gratifying to see a younger participant break into the medal ranks for a change: Patrick Kessler from MG Bern took bronze!
Fortunately, not a single model helicopter was damaged during the entire championship. Overall, there was a high level of discipline among the participants. In any case, the competition was able to start very punctually each time, and there were hardly any interruptions between flights—which is likely due in no small part to the professional management by Peter Oberli.
