Model Aviation Region 6 – Another Region Becomes an Independent Section of the AeCS

Nineteen model aircraft clubs from Eastern Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein joined together to form a model aircraft section and submitted an application for membership to the AeCS, which has now been approved.

A turbulent year for Region 6! After the July chairpersons’ conference unanimously decided to establish an independent model aircraft section, the long-standing discussion came to a provisional conclusion at the founding meeting on October 24, 1981, with the approval of the regional bylaws. The application for our section’s admission has been submitted to the AeCS Executive Committee and will be considered at its next meeting. The regional bylaws were declared provisional at the founding meeting and will be revised by an elected commission by fall 1982, with proposals to be submitted to the next chairpersons’ conference.
All 19 model aircraft groups are registered as regular members. Thus, the young section has around 800 members. As the third-largest model aircraft region (after Regions 5 and 4), we will be able to represent the interests of our model aircraft enthusiasts at the Delegates’ Assembly with 6 votes.
What do individual members now expect from the newly founded section? Aside from certain administrative services, individual group members will not notice much of a change “up there.” The bulk of the work will continue to be done within the groups, where responsible and prudent group leaders guide the groups. Without active model aviation groups, there can be no active model aviation region! My main priority for the future will be to foster a sense of community within the region and, by extension, within the AeCS. A first step in this direction has been taken with a subscription to *modell flugsport*—the official publication—for every member.
Rolf Hess, long-time president of MG Amriswil and the main driving force behind the founding of the section, was awarded the Model Flying Badge of Honor for his service. Heartfelt congratulations! After his stay in the United States, Rolf Hess will serve on the board as regional editor for *mfs*.
Please refer to the annual reports of the technical committees for last year’s competition results.
It remains for me to sincerely thank all model aviators, the group chairmen, and, last but not least, my colleagues on the Regional Board for their valuable groundwork. By joining forces, we will successfully navigate the coming year. I wish everyone the best of luck and may your spars and ribs break only when they’re meant to.
Egon Nufer, Regional Chair
