... not just a feast for the eyes

Company Profile: “CNC Technik Kolm”
There are few large-displacement four-stroke gasoline engines on the market. In response to this situation, CNC Technik Kolm has spent several years developing a modular model engine concept to meet the needs of model builders with an Austrian-made product. Today, the lineup includes single-cylinder engines with a displacement of 50 cm³, as well as boxer and inline engines with displacements of 100 cm³ and 130 cm³.
The design and construction of four-stroke model engines is our passion—a passion that has captivated Dipl. Ing. Johann Kolm, himself a model airplane enthusiast for 35 years. Behind these decades of experience lies a successful center of expertise, CNC Technik KOLM, which brings extensive practical knowledge and the highest level of expertise in manufacturing technology to the table. CNC Technik KOLM, founded in 1998 by Dipl. Ing. Johann Kolm, originally operated in the field of CNC manufacturing of precision turned and milled parts. The company’s second pillar is CNC training, where model engine parts continue to form the basis of the range of components used in the training courses. Through years of involvement in model building—and model engine construction in particular—professional
model engine construction has now established itself as a third pillar. In addition to the company owner, Dipl. Ing. Johann Kolm, several freelancers work on this project alongside the company’s employees.
After several years of development on a single-cylinder engine, the first prototype of an 80-cm³ boxer engine was tested on the dynamometer, and from then on, we quickly moved on to further developing the 100-cm³ boxer as well as the single-cylinder engines. In the fall of 2009, we introduced the first 100-cm³ inline engine, which we designed primarily to appeal to the warbird community. We tested this engine extensively and began shipping it in the fourth quarter of 2010. In the spring of 2010, we derived a 130-cm³ boxer engine from our 100-cm³ boxer engine; with its power output, it surpasses a 100-cm³ two-stroke engine and, thanks to its performance, is even suitable for 3D aerobatics. Thus, we currently offer a single-cylinder—

50 cm³ engines, 100 and 130 cm³ boxer engines, and 100 and 130 cm³ inline engines are available. However, anyone who doesn’t want to buy an off-the-shelf engine but would rather build their own can do so in a 1.5-day workshop at Johann Kolm.

One-of-a-kind products instead of mass-produced goods: CNC Technik KOLM develops exclusively 4-stroke gasoline engines, which are manufactured in small batches. All parts are manufactured in our in-house CNC production facility and undergo rigorous quality controls before being installed in our engines. A parts and measurement report is provided as a matter of course, as is registration via serial number. *rk*
