HANG GLIDING AT TANNBERG
On Saturday, March 21, 24 highly motivated pilots joined forces with 14 highly motivated volunteers to host the traditional RCS slope flying event organized by the Northeast Switzerland Model Flying Region (NOS) on the Tannberg. To cut to the chase, it was a fantastic slope flying competition with lots of smiling and satisfied faces.
This event clearly demonstrates how, through camaraderie and mutual support, we can overcome practically any small or large problem that arises. For example, some participants were unable—for health reasons—to walk the steep path to the launch site on their own, or at least not for all four runs. That wasn’t a problem at all. There were plenty of helping hands to carry the models for the pilots with disabilities.
Our fantastic volunteers certainly contributed to the event’s success (members of the Wald, Rapperswil-Jona, and Butikon model flying clubs, as well as the wives of participating pilots), who served, for example, as part of the launch crew or as timekeepers and operators of the small but delightful refreshment stand. Upon registration and payment of the entry fee, every pilot and volunteer received a small gift in the form of a bag of chocolate wafers.

In terms of flying, the first three rounds were conducted under good to very good conditions. At times, it took a great deal of effort to initiate the landing at the right moment. During the landing, every centimeter was a struggle. The excitement over a successful landing could be heard across the entire field from time to time.

The exciting comments from the fellow pilots were also very entertaining.
The fact that weather conditions deteriorated during the fourth round did nothing to dampen the good mood, however. Right up until the end, the pilots had to give it their all to still achieve good landing scores despite the building tailwind.
Shortly after the competition ended, Fabian Fahrni, the new president of MG Wald, announced the results. Thanks to Leomotion, OldiFa, and a private sponsor, prizes totaling over 1,000 Swiss francs were awarded to the pilots.
In the individual competition, Manuel Peter (MG Mörsburg) took first place, ahead of Alain Schad (MG Wald) and Sandro Peter (MG Mörsburg). In the team competition, MG Mörsburg won—almost as a tradition—ahead of MG Affoltern and MG Wald.
MG Wald—which, by the way, will celebrate its 50th anniversary at the end of the year—will do everything in its power to ensure the event is a success again next year.
