Versatile RC Aerobatics

8

Today, we are familiar not only with the FAI’s classic and very first RC category: F3A Motor Aerobatics (1st World Championship in 1960 in Dübendorf). Over the past 60-plus years, in addition to ongoing developments and innovations in F3A, other aerobatics classes have emerged.

The most important FAI aerobatics classes for us (World Championship status)
F3APowered Aerobatics
F3C/F3NHelicopter Aerobatics/Freestyle
F3P/F3P AFMIndoor Aerobatics/Freestyle
F4CScale (plus build evaluation)

The following classes are also flown at the international and/or national level:

  • RCS Acro (aerobatics with gliders)
  • Jet Scale
  • Jetflyers (see MFS Issue No. 3 for details)

How do I get started?

For juniors and aerobatics enthusiasts who want to get started with a manageable amount of effort, “Sportflyers” was created with the “Basics” and “Upper” categories. The former is a classic beginner’s program. But even that requires practice. Those who want to aim higher can move up to “Upper.” This program is largely based on the 2024–2025 FAI F3A Advanced Program—a brilliant transition to the most challenging F3A programs.
