Meeting du GAM Sion

The traditional GAM Sion meet brought together about 40 drivers from abroad and from all corners of Switzerland over two days, May 15 and 16. The forecast of gloomy, cold, and rainy weather might have discouraged some drivers and spectators, but once again, the Valais microclimate ensured the event’s success.

The Sion Air Show isn't just an aerial spectacle. It offers families other promotional activities, such as a model-building booth where about a hundred Dépron airplanes were built, a decoration contest, vendor booths, and face painting. In that regard, Corine’s tent—where she beautifully painted children’s faces—has simply become a “must-see.”

On the culinary front, the traditional paella and shrimp always add an extra touch to the atmosphere. The highlight on Saturday night was the performance by DJ Guz and Oliver Martin, who warmed up the cool Sédun night with a groove-and-sax vibe. Too bad the night owls didn’t quite embrace this appealing event!

As for the models on display, the photos speak louder than words (also available at www.gamsion.ch). Note the insightful comments that highlight the developments with joy and humor. Most of the models represent the very best of current technology: giant helicopters, turbine-powered aircraft, high-speed electric planes, and scale models. Nevertheless, Yves Sedlatchek and his team added a touch of whimsy by attempting to fly as many foam airplanes as possible at the same time, showing the public that model building is still accessible to everyone.
