14th Alpine Model Aircraft Camp in Hahnenmoos

Our 14th camp was filled with sunshine, wind, and wonderful flying conditions. Our participants had the opportunity to gain experience in slope soaring and to experience thermal flying at 2,000 meters above sea level.

Landing downwind or deep in a valley after a “dive” are experiences every model glider pilot should have at least once; that’s the only way to overcome the fear of launching a model into the unknown. Thanks to a well-coordinated team of instructors, participants receive plenty of support at the flying field or in the workshop after a botched landing. Some models were in much better condition after a week than they were at the start of camp. Experience has taught us that before a model is flown, it must first be checked by an instructor. In many cases, the servo installation was problematic, the center of gravity was in the wrong place, the control surfaces were incorrectly hinged, or the control travel was inappropriate.

As is tradition, a glider was built according to the workshop’s own design. Anyone who built the glider precisely and flew it skillfully had a good chance of winning a great prize from our sponsors by achieving long flight times in the competition.
