Great Interest in Scale Models – “The Fascination of Model Aviation” Exhibition by the Burgdorf Model Aviation Club
In February, the Burgdorf Model Aircraft Club hosted its exhibition “The Fascination of Model Building.” The theme was “Model Aircraft: From Yesterday to Today.” We were pleased to welcome many interested visitors to the Saalbau Kirchberg throughout the entire duration of the exhibition.
Even before entering, visitors could get a sense of what awaited them inside the building thanks to the assembled man-carrying glider on display at the entrance.
The exhibits covered a wide range of model aviation disciplines and, with very few exceptions, were created exclusively by members of the club. On

Naturally, the competition models flown by our scale pilots—including Andreas Lüthi’s current World Championship model—drew a great deal of interest. A large number of the models were created in hobbyists’ basements, either built entirely from scratch or following blueprints. But the latest innovations were also on display. Throughout the entire exhibition, the 3D printer was working on a
model created 100% by the printer.
The model-building corner was also very popular; there, under expert guidance, visitors could assemble the hand-launched gliders provided by the SMV. With the exception of a few, all 300 of the gliders provided were glued together. At the two flight simulators, many visitors—especially young ones—
visitors, especially young ones, get their first taste of flying a model airplane.
As befits such an event, the food and beverage stand was, of course, a must. The fact that it was well-attended throughout the entire exhibition period reflected its quality and the great dedication of our club members assigned to work there. The young and the young at heart
were able to wind down the day at the bar on Friday and Saturday evenings after the exhibition closed.
We were rewarded for our efforts by the many positive comments we received. We believe—and hope—that we succeeded in introducing our hobby to a large number of visitors. ■
