Review of the EPP Rainbow

Here’s my review of the Rainbow, an EPP aerobatic model. The name of the model alone is enough to get you excited! For one thing, the plane looks absolutely great on the ground; for another, you can fly beautiful, smooth arcs—rainbows, in fact—in the sky with this model... But enough with the fun.

First Impression

The EPP plane is well-built and fits together perfectly. It can be assembled and ready to fly in just a few hours. It’s also interesting to note that the 1.4-meter model costs less than 500 francs, ready to fly. A true “low-budget plane”!

When selecting components, I focused on functionality. The plane is designed to withstand the rigors of everyday use.

Assembly

It’s really just a matter of assembly, since all you have to do is glue in the tail section and screw the RC components into the recesses provided for them. After that, just mount the motor and ESC onto the pre-assembled motor cowling, and you’re ready to head to the airfield! The model features some truly innovative design solutions. Both the engine cowling and the canopy are equipped with magnetic latches and can be easily opened. The wings are plug-in and can be easily removed for transport.

The Drive Concept

Generally speaking, I think a 4S battery with a capacity between 3,300 mAh and 3,800 mAh is a good choice. Under the hood is the ePower 2826/750 motor, which is controlled by a 50-amp ePower ESC. The measured current draw on the ground, with an APC 14×7" propeller, is about 45 amps. So everything’s in the clear—there’s plenty of power available. Now I’m wondering whether the Rainbow can also be powered by a 5S battery. The reason I’m considering the 5S setup is that, due to my 10S F3A plane, I actually

had enough 5S batteries in stock. So I swapped out the 14×7" propeller for a 12×6" one. The current on the ground is now around 48 amps. The Rainbow easily handles the extra weight from the larger battery! In my opinion, the Rainbow can be flown with either a 4S or a 5S battery, depending on your preferences and which battery you already have in the hangar.

The Decor

The model is painted using the included decal sheet. The model is available in either a blue or red color scheme. The surface of the EPP model is white and smooth.

Conclusion

I highly recommend the Rainbow! It can

It makes it easy to get started in aerobatics. Its docile and balanced flight characteristics also make this model appealing to beginners. On the other hand, the Rainbow can also be used as a training model for advanced pilots. The model can be flown with great precision, and its strengths lie

in classic, dynamic aerobatics. Its compact size makes it easy to take the plane with you wherever you go and enjoy a quick flight whenever you have a moment. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the eflight team for their kind support.
