The 1983 Region 9 Championships
db / The activities of AéCS Model Aircraft Region 9 are limited exclusively to Category F3, that is, remote-controlled model airplanes and gliders. Here are the results of the three regional competitions:
This year, the GMR Fribourg organized the first championship of the season. The field, made available to the organizing club by a farmer from Tafers, had been very well prepared by Rolf Aumann, the competition director, and his team. Unfortunately, the weather played a trick on them, and it was no easy task to ensure the events could take place under acceptable conditions.

Aerobatics enthusiasts gathered in Avenches at the magnificent GMR airfield there, presided over by Michel Pignolet. René Schumacher, a member of the F3A national aerobatics team, served as competition director. Blessed
with splendid weather, the events took place under excellent conditions. It should be noted, however, that one competitor had to be disqualified because his model was too loud (109 dB) and did not meet the noise standards set by the AéCS.

Slope soaring is truly a gamble for competition organizers. Maurice Leuenberger, president of the GMR in La Chaux-de-Fonds and head of this event, experienced this once again. Conditions were poor in the morning, and many of the 55 registered competitors chose to withdraw. It wasn’t until around noon that the flights began, under good conditions. The final, pitting the top four competitors
against each other, was watched with great interest by the large crowd out for a stroll on the Chasseral that day.
