Open Fly-In and Radial Engine Meet at the Gäu Model Flying Club
The Gäu Model Aircraft Club has invited members to its 13th Open Fly-In and 4th Radial Engine Meet.

In beautiful weather, the Gäu Model Flying Club welcomed 56 pilots on Saturday. After the briefing, the pilots were able to register. Then flight operations got off to a brisk start. The Swiss Akro Connection was also in attendance and performed their program, the “Akro-Karussell,” twice for the large crowd of visitors. Guests had also traveled from Germany. Among others, Marc Petrak gave an extensive demonstration flight of his Fiat G91 (57 kg) scale model. Our two members, Maik Stuber and Dani Affolter from the Swiss Formation Team, were of course there as well. As always, they performed their flawless routine twice each day with their Albatros L39 (82 kg), which included flying smiley faces into the blue sky. Of course, we mustn’t forget the many other pilots who performed flawlessly with their models. The event featured 3D helicopters and aerobatic aircraft, parachutists, and Depron models. There was something for the kids, too. A model was used to drop small tiles, which the many children were able to collect.

On Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m., there was free mushroom risotto for all pilots and the many guests and visitors in attendance, while supplies lasted, which was very well received. The 35 kg of risotto were gone in no time.
On Sunday, a total of 38 pilots made their way to our event. Twenty-six models, all equipped with radial engines, were flown in the scale category. On this day as well, we wanted to showcase the full range of model aviation, so the pilots mentioned earlier were able to fly their programs once again. Everything went off without a hitch on both days. The Pilots

expressed their gratitude for the organization and the emphasis on safety at the MfV Gäu. Unfortunately, there were three crashes in which the models were destroyed. But that, unfortunately, is also part of model flying.
The Gäu Model Flying Club would like to thank all pilots, guests, and visitors for turning out in such large numbers and is already looking forward to next year. The date for this event has already been set. It will take place on the weekend of September 7–8, 2024.
