Region 5 Regional Motor Glider Championships (RCS-M)
Organized by the Illnau-Effretikon Model Aircraft Club
After having to reschedule the event, it was finally held on October 4 under excellent weather conditions. The First Airfield was bathed in beautiful fall weather, and the few participants were able to enjoy a wonderful Sunday.
As mentioned: “The few participants”—and it is precisely this observation that gives us all great cause to reflect on why this is the case.
In “Modellflugsport” No. 4/81, you were provided with detailed information about the motor glider category in a report covering the Kyburg Cup held on March 29, 1981. Even the low turnout at that time prompted us to reconsider the existing regulations. We asked all interested parties to submit any suggestions they might have, whether in the form of a written statement or during a joint discussion evening. Unfortunately, we received absolutely no response to our request, which understandably gave us pause. With only 8 participants (originally 13 registered), the question arises: Should this RCSM regional championship still be included on the event calendar? Must the efforts of the past three years be deemed a failure? It’s quite clear that an organizer has little incentive to put together a flawless event when there is no significant interest from the participants. The effort required for organization remains the same. In any case, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find organizers for any events at all, so we must seriously consider how to proceed.
At the upcoming chairpersons’ conference on January 16, 1982, we will discuss the next steps in detail.

The Regional Board must also decide on the future of the motor glider category. We therefore ask you, in our mutual interest, to bring any suggestions or points for discussion to the meeting. We would also be very pleased to receive some input before the date listed above so that we can ensure proper preparation. Please send these to: Werner Erismann, Müslistrasse 9, 8307 Effretikon. As we are still hoping for lively interest, the Illnau-Effretikon Model Aircraft Club thanks you for coming to the First Airfield, whether as a visitor or a participant. We are happy to host exciting competitions and
welcome today to the “Kyburg Cup 1982” (late March–early April 1982).
Until then, best regards, W. Erismann
