E-DDays: Flying with Hydraulic Power

The pilots were delighted to gather for this national weekend at the Sierre airfield. It must be said that the invitation was a special one: no big planes, no huge gliders, no turbojets, and certainly no “My Rolls” flying low over the daisies. So you might be wondering, “Yeah, but what was there, then?” Well, for this first Electric D-Days (E-DDays), silence reigned. Yes, you read that right; these airplanes, motor gliders, and helicopters were all powered by tiny electrons tucked away deep inside their Li-Po packs. The soft, muffled sound of the propellers was so pleasant in this relaxed atmosphere that all the pilots took great pleasure in flying over this picturesque landscape—just like the Valais cuisine. Let’s also admit that the weather was on the side of the Sierre Modélisme club, making the event a perfect—

a resounding success. If there was any doubt about the value of such an event on the FSAM calendar, it flew away along with those marvelous flying machines that are our model aircraft. So I can already tell you: see you very, very soon for E-DDays #2, on May 23 and 24, 2009.

The GAM Sierre invites you to come fly powered by the blue-green energy from the large dams. The rule—if there were to be one—is to take it easy (you still have 363 days to stress out) and simply come fly among fellow electric-propulsion enthusiasts. You’ll find all the information very soon on the World Wide Web at www.gamsierre.ch, or feel free to contact us!
