First Overall Winner of the Regio Gliding Cup

For the first time, an overall winner of the Regio Gliding Cup was determined for 2018. To determine the winner, the region’s three traditional competitions were combined: the Hagmatten Cup in Büren, the Schwarzbubenfliegen in Brislach, and the Erlen Cup in Breitenbach. At the most recent Regional Presidents’ Conference in Breitenbach, the winner, Nico Sauter, received the challenge cup from Regional President Romeo Spaar. The successful pilot from MG Büren had flown a “thousander” in two of the three competitions this season, a feat that drew applause from the presidents in attendance and the regional board.

With the challenge cup, Romeo Spaar has achieved a first milestone on the path to making the Regional Gliding Cup an established event with participants from as many groups as possible within the RMV “Nordwest.” As can be seen from the rankings (*mfvbrislach.ch/*uploads/Rangliste-Regio-Segelflugcup-2018.pdf*), the field of participants currently consists mainly of members from the Brislach and Büren groups, even though a total of seven groups are represented. To achieve broader support, two additional competition sites are to be added. Starting in 2019, a competition will be held for the first time on the grounds of MG Breitfeld. Regional President Spaar would like to see a fifth competition, preferably in the southern foothills of the Jura within the RMV “Nordwest” region. This is not least in the interest of the geographical spread of the Regio Gliding Cup. Five competitions would then allow for one result to be discarded in the overall standings. This would give pilots who cannot participate in all competitions a chance in the overall standings as well. ■
