Obligation to Help Out at Club Events

Heiner Borer on the 50th Anniversary of MG Breitenbach in 2009

The anniversary year begins with the 50th General Assembly on February 6—almost exactly 50 years to the day after our association was founded. It is a “regular” General Assembly, except that the association is hosting a reception to celebrate the occasion.

Longtime secretary Heiner Studer is stepping down from the board and will be replaced by Gabriel Rabaglio. Heiner Studer is named an honorary member, and the club wishes him much fulfillment in his new role as a member of the Solothurn Cantonal Council. The Jura Cup in tied-flight competition takes place on the runway under beautiful weather conditions. Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts, only a few competitors line up at the start in the Team Racing category—unlike in the Aerobatics category.

On June 20, the big day arrives. The new clubhouse is ready to be inaugurated. Five municipal council members, the regional president, representatives from neighboring model aircraft clubs, and many of our members crowd into the new premises. A fitting occasion to celebrate a job well done.

It goes without saying that the traditional competitions will once again be held this year at Schwalbennest and Erlen. What no longer seems so self-evident, however, is the willingness to pitch in as volunteers at such events and competitions. It simply cannot be that the same people are always the ones doing the work for the club. For this reason, the board decided to draw up what is known as a “volunteer policy.” This policy requires our members to assist with club events. The policy was then approved by a majority vote at the general meeting.

The anniversary year concluded with an anniversary celebration in the auditorium of the Zwingen school building, attended by our members and their partners, officials from the municipalities of Breitenbach, Zwingen, and Büsserach, and a number of guests of honor. It was a fitting evening to mark the end of the first 50 years of the Breitenbach Model Aircraft Club.
