Further improvements in flight performance

Just two months after the 2024 Swiss Indoor Flying Championships, nine indoor fliers—some of whom competed in both categories—gathered in February at the Haulismatte Hall in Balsthal. By moving the event to February, the Swiss indoor model aircraft pilots are intended to have more training time during the winter. Seven pilots registered for the F1D class (55 cm wingspan, 1.4 grams weight, 0.4 grams rubber) and six for the F1M-L class (46 cm wingspan, 3 grams weight, and 1.5 grams rubber).

Compared to December 2024, flight performance continued to improve. In the F1D class, 5 competitors flew for over 22 minutes in both scoring flights. The winner was Giancarlo Polla (MG Fehraltorf) with 32 minutes 58 seconds (+7% compared to 2024), ahead of Rolf Steinegger (MG Sulzer) with 23:55 and Rainer Lotz (MG Schaffhausen) with 23:30. In the F1M-L class, Giancarlo Polla also claimed victory with a time of 16:28, ahead of Rainer Lotz with 15:20 and Hanspeter Jermann with 14:06.

This means that the next challenge for Switzerland’s top F1D indoor pilots will likely be building airworthy model planes. The F1D World Championship will take place in June 2026 at Kibbie Dome in Moscow, Idaho.
