Establishment of Two Model Aircraft Clubs

Two new model aircraft clubs were recently established in Region 5. Both clubs are based in the Zürcher Unterland region: the Unterland Model Flying Club in Bülach, which focuses primarily on RC powered flight, and the Swissair RC Gliding Club. Both clubs have decided to join the AeCS through Region 5. No new club has been founded in this area since the establishment of the Kloten Model Flying Club. Although Kloten Airport fosters a passion for flying, particularly among young people, the issue of flight safety for civil aviation poses some challenges to the development and maintenance of model airfields.

It is therefore all the more gratifying that the MG Unterland already has a powered-flight airfield and that the RCSG Swissair is in the process of developing an RCS high-launch site near the airport. These examples also demonstrate the level of understanding the airport’s governing authority has shown toward model flying.

We wish these two new groups not only a successful start to their first flying season, but also many unforgettable hours to come. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the two chairmen and the other board members for volunteering their time for this work, which is not always easy, and we look forward to a fruitful collaboration with the other groups as well as the Region 5 board.
