MG Uster Summer Fun Event

For the second time, MG Uster held a model-building course over three afternoons during the summer break as part of the City of Uster’s “Ferienplausch” program. Together with 20 young people aged 11 to 15, they built the Bora model from Aeronaut. The participants also took home some theoretical knowledge.

In short: It was a real joy to watch how motivated and focused the boys were as they got to work—and all this during summer vacation in a school building... We certainly don’t need to worry about our young people. After some initial shyness—almost a sense of awe—the atmosphere became lively and joyful. There was laughter and joking, and everyone actively helped one another.

Construction progressed so quickly that by the second afternoon, videos about the various disciplines of model flying could be shown. Then, on Friday afternoon, all participants, along with their planes, were transported to the nearby MG Uster airfield. Wearing caps from the company e-flight, they were instructed on

how to get such a model airborne—no easy feat given the gusty winds that afternoon! Afterward came what was for many the highlight of the course: instructor-student flying sessions! Some of them discovered that flying a remote-controlled model isn’t all that easy. But a few talented flyers were also spotted. This course, too, was a complete success. In two courses held in 2006 and 2007, 40 young people were introduced to the secrets of model flying. Our underlying goal was clear: to recruit young pilots for the MG Uster.

We’d like to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt thanks to e-flight GmbH for their generous support in providing the model kits and for the caps that every participant received. A very special thank you goes to the administration of the Wüeri School in Nänikon and to the school custodian, Mr. Castrischer, for allowing us to use the school’s shop during the school break.
