Nothing Works Without Them – Contests in Switzerland

Establishment of a Pool of Volunteers

Organizing model aircraft competitions in Switzerland is often a major challenge today for a variety of reasons. Depending on the competition category, suitable model flying fields must first be found. The clubs would have to make these available for one to two days. Especially when models with loud engines are to be used, the number of possible locations in densely populated areas drops rapidly.

The next problem arises with recruiting competition volunteers, judges, timekeepers, landing judges, scorekeepers, etc. If the field club itself provides these personnel, the situation becomes much easier to manage. If the club wants to limit its role to running the venue’s snack bar or is unable to provide staff—e.g., due to absences—the entire team must be “brought in” from outside. Finding a sufficient number of volunteers can be a time-consuming task. I’ve read that some organizers want to handle everything themselves, including staffing. In practice, things turned out differently...

Conclusion: Establishing a pool of competition volunteers could ease the burden on organizers. Those interested can contact the regional office. They will then receive detailed information about available roles, requirements, training dates, compensation, and competition classes.

Your benefit: Volunteers have the unique opportunity to experience competition classes up close.
