A lot of passion has gone into it

Dear Reader,

In the last issue, we discussed the “vacation passes” offered during summer break. Indeed, here and there, dedicated model aircraft clubs and their members were actively involved with young people. Many people devoted their free time to the children.

As mentioned in the previous editorial, the question remains whether this is enough to ensure a steady supply of young members in our clubs. We’ve received some feedback on this issue—for example, that the SMV’s Youth Development Department is barely noticed, etc.

Currently, several aviation events and club anniversaries are on the schedule or have already taken place. As a good example of a well-rounded aviation event, we’d like to highlight the International Air Show in Yverdon-les-Bains in this issue.

Among other things, we’re presenting two successful home-built projects: the Caravelle, a former Swissair airliner built by Emil Giezendanner, and the Lockheed F-35A, built by Beat and Daniel Eichenberger. It’s a sort of look back into the past or forward into the future in the form of model airplanes. The effort required to plan, build, and then fly such a creation demands a great deal of motivation and perseverance.

It's just a labor of love!
