40th Anniversary of GAM Courtelary

The sun was shining on Saturday, September 21, the date chosen by GAMCY to celebrate its 40th anniversary. About 50 enthusiastic model aircraft enthusiasts gathered at the club’s airfield: the Courtelary Aerodrome.

The day was intended to be a friendly and memorable occasion with GAMCY members and their families, as well as the gliding clubs from Courtelary (GVVC) and Biel (SGB). This is what President Alain Holzer highlighted in his welcome speech, in which he also recounted the major changes this hobby has undergone over the past four decades.

Each member and their family were then treated to a delicious meal courtesy of the caterer “Boucherie Schnegg” from Court.

Model airplane world champion Andreas Lüthi (a former GAMCY member) treated the guests to flights with his magnificent Bücker Antarès. These breathtaking flights evoked fond memories for the Courtelary veterans of the days when another legendary biplane, the “Tiger Moth,” towed gliders—long before the club was even founded!

A model-building contest was won by the club’s oldest member, Alcide Aeberhard, thanks to his magnificent “Demoiselle.” The goal was to build a model just as they did 40 years ago, using wood and balsa. Throughout the day, members took turns on the field to fly their aircraft before the amazed eyes of families and spectators: flights of turbine jets, aerobatic planes, scale models, gliders, drones, and helicopters.

A lively simultaneous flight involving about fifteen pilots flying “mousses” left a lasting impression on all the guests, with the pilots all grinning from ear to ear...

The club, which is thriving with its forty or so members, hopes to continue enjoying wonderful days of camaraderie while sharing this great passion!
