2nd MG Nidwalden RC Water Model Aircraft Meet in Beckenried

Sunshine from the start and no wind; it only picked up slightly in the afternoon. Ideal flying conditions. Everyone who wanted to got plenty of flying time. It was so easy that day to chat, bond with friends, and make new acquaintances.

We discussed the models, what’s currently under construction, and what’s still in the works. We also actively exchanged information about where like-minded people can meet and where and under what conditions flying is permitted. Of course, organizing such a gathering involves quite a bit of effort: preliminary discussions with landowners and immediate neighbors, inquiries with the municipality, and, depending on the situation, obtaining permits from the canton and law enforcement.

There are significant differences even just around Lake Lucerne. While Lucerne prohibits model aircraft flying over water, Nidwalden and Uri allow it. It’s great that there are cantons like Aargau, which recently revised its regulations and now permits it.

Getting to the meetup in Beckenried wasn’t exactly a walk in the park! Landing amid the occasionally high waves caused by the ferry boats led to a

unplanned divers. Our rescue worker, Timo, was out on the water in his canoe time and time again. Thanks also to the volunteers who helped with launching the boats, air traffic control, and setting up and taking down the infrastructure. Thank you for coming and helping to make the day such a success. I was thrilled to receive so much great feedback and gratitude. We’ve heard your request for another meetup next year!
