Lodrino, September 19, 2020 – 2020 Ticino Modelers’ Day

Well, the title sounds promising. The idea for a cantonal gathering came from the GAMB group. It probably stemmed from the conclusion of an event in the fall in Lodrino—a very popular flying event that, unfortunately, no longer takes place.

The idea itself can certainly remain on the table, and if it does come to fruition—especially given the current circumstances—I think that’s something we can all agree on.

September 19 wasn’t exactly the ideal day for the premiere. Lodrino was shrouded in thick clouds and had a rather low temperature—not exactly what you’d expect at the end of summer. At a slow pace, like a caravan, the first participants arrived and immediately set about assembling their airplanes. The briefing took place at 9 a.m., and then the sun finally came out.

Lodrino truly offers everything your heart desires—the space to truly fly freely. The warm, exuberant flying style and the conversations among pilots are what make it special. This has fostered a relaxed atmosphere. One factor is particularly important: you can fly anything here, from gliders to jets, big or small. The food, from the grill, was satisfying right from the start. Kudos to the kitchen. Unfortunately, the afternoon weather put a damper on our plans when it started to rain—what a shame.

In conclusion, I can say it was a success—there’s always room for improvement, provided it continues—and I believe people enjoyed it.

Thank you,
GAMB; thank you,
Rolf Walser. Text and photos: Wolf Völler
